"Jon! Wake up! You're going to be late for school!" His mother's voice was as painful as the bright sunshine blasting him in the face. Mornings were not easy for Jon Madison, but today he struggled out of sleep as swiftly as he could. Yesterday his life had changed when he received a stone with the power to grant his every wish, and he didn't want to waste a minute of his new reality.
He shook the cobwebs from his head and swung his feet down beside the bed. He noticed that he hit something in the process, knocking it over. Worried that it might be something spillable, he got down beside his bed in a flash to correct whatever he had hit.
Instead of a glass, however, he found the last thing he ever anticipated. A pair of five inch, silver (they seemed to glimmer), stiletto shoes lay before him. They were completely open on top, except for the bands that crossed over where the toe would bend from the foot, and the four silver bands that would encircle the ankle above the show. His mouth watered as he imagined these sexy shoes on a woman's foot.
"Jon, if you don't get up soon I'm coming up there!" The shrill voice cut through the air again.
"I'm up, already!" He hoarsely called out. He realized that the shock of her calling him had caused him to catch up the shoes and hold them tight to his chest. Dropping them again, he wondered where they had come from. Had he made a wish in the night for the shoes? He might have, he noted that the shoes were bigger than he had thought before (had they grown after he touched them?), big enough, he imagined, to fit him!
He looked around for the rock and couldn't find it anywhere. If he had re-read the note from his late grandfather, he would have noticed that the word 'stone' had been replaced in the night with 'stilettos'. Being in the room when the wish had been spoken to change the stone, he wasn't privy to the knowledge of the new reality that he would otherwise have had.
