A knock at the door woke her up, much to her disappointment. She was having an interesting dream, that just started to slip from her mind. But she remembered that it had something to do with vampires.
"Jane, wake up," her mother said, from the other side of the door.
Jane groaned. It was Tuesday - a school day. She pulled back the black-colored covers and sat up on the edge of her bed. It took her a moment to fully wake up, and when she did, she smiled. School sucked, of course. But her friends were there. And after school, she was planning on hanging out with them at the Spiked Pit, a local Goth club.
She stood up from her bed and walked to the closet. The image that reflected back from the mirrored doors was that of a 37-year old woman, with faded Goth make-up, black-dyed hair and pale skin. But as far as Jane was concerned, there was nothing wrong with that. That's what she was supposed to look like. It never occurred to her that a 37-year old shouldn't be in high school ... or shouldn't look like a Goth.
She opened the closet and picked out her outfit: a fishnet shirt underneath a black T-shirt, a black leather miniskirt, fishnet stockings, and her usual black buckled boots with three-inch stacks. She also made sure to put on a spiked collar. She felt naked without it.
After she was ready, she looked at herself in the mirror and smiled. But there was one more thing. She had to reapply her make-up. Then she'd be perfect.
But there was someone close by who didn't think she'd be perfect. And that was the original Jane (Jon's mother), who was trapped inside her own mind, unable to stop herself from acting and dressing like her daughter Zoe. She tried her hardest to gain control over her body, but it was no use. She was a prisoner.
Jane smiled again, then left her room with her leather pull-string bag that she used to put her schoolbooks in.
The alarm went off, waking him. And a minute later, he heard his mother knock on the door and say "Rick, wake up." He smiled to himself, as he thought of his mom as his back-up alarm clock.
He pulled back the covers and sat at the edge of his bed, taking a moment to yawn and stretch. It was a big day for him. The previous afternoon, he showed the wishing stone to his friend Bethany Black and they had made plans to use it again. He just hoped that they were a little more careful with it this time. The last time Beth used it, she accidentally made her breasts bigger and her hair blonder and longer. Not that Rick was disappointed by it, though. He thought it was a definite improvement, but Beth didn't seem to think so.
Trapped inside his own mind, the original Rick (Jon's father) wondered why he was thinking about a wishing stone. It's like he knew about it, but at the same time didn't. And who was Beth? He didn't know anyone named Beth.
Hey, what's happening? Rick thought in his head, as he felt his body move against his will. He watched helplessly as his body stood up from the bed and walked across the room. Then he saw his reflection. He was himself, but he was wearing his son Jon's clothes. And now that he noticed it, he was in Jon's bedroom. What was happening?
Rick stood in front of the mirror and stretched again. Then he walked to the bathroom to get ready for school.
