Zoe couldn't believe it. Her greatest fantasy had come true. She was now a harpy. A real harpy.
Feeling like she was on top of the world, she walked down the hall smiling. Until she saw her friend Athena standing next to ... Sarah McMillan? Why the fuck were they talking with each other?
"Athena?" Zoe said, approaching them.
Her friend turned and looked at her. Then she said something unexpected. "Well, if it isn't Birdbrain. Wow, what a freak." Then both Athena and Sarah broke out in laughter.
"Yeah, totally," Sarah agreed.
Why was her friend acting like this? And why was she hanging out with Sarah? Athena was still Goth. Sarah would never even talk with her. She considered Zoe and all her friends to be freaks, totally below her. But it seemed that ever since Zoe became a harpy, certain things had changed.
What Zoe hadn't figured out yet was that ever since she became a harpy (half girl, half bird), she was the biggest freak in school. Even the Goths (her own friends) looked down on her. She was teased even more now than she was before.
