On his bed sat a girl--who looked a lot like he did and was probably around the same age. She was wearing jeans and a shirt, but she had earrings and her hair was longer than his.
"Who are you?" she asked. She was surprised, but thanks to Jon's wish she didn't react as most people would react to a strange man in their room. She wasn't upset at all.
"I'm Jon," he said. He figured that mentioning the magic stone was the fastest way to find out if he had somehow changed time so that he was a girl--unless this girl was a version of him, she wouldn't know about the stone. "I got a magic stone from my grandfather, which let me..."
"Wait a minute!" she said. "You're talking about my magic stone."
"Maybe I am," said Jon, and held up his stone.
The girl then said "that looks just like mine," holding up an identical stone.
"That proves it," said Jon. "I bet your name is Joan or something like that, right?"
"It's Jane," said the girl.
"All right, Jane, here's what happened. I got this stone from my grandfather, and I first tested it on some things including a tree branch...."
The girl nodded. "So did I."
"And," continued Jon, "Mom wished I'd have to carry around tits like in one of my... magazines."
"Well, I didn't do that!" exclaimed the girl. "Why would I read a magazine like that?"
"You don't really read them..." said Jon. "Anyway, I ended up getting sent to my conception by accident and I changed history, so I was born as you. Only since you're a girl, you didn't read the same magazine so the same thing didn't happen to you. Which means you're still here and so am I."
"That's so weird! So I was really supposed to be you? Were you and Karyn, er, dating?"
"Not really," said Jon, "but we were friends."
"Not any more," replied Jane. "She's never heard of you! Nobody at school has... even Mom hasn't heard of you."
"But why would they... oh." After the realization came to Jon, he said "I guess you're right. I changed history so you're the one who exists. But she knows you and that's like knowing me, right?"
"I bet it isn't completely the same. Anyway, she's coming over soon." A buzzing came from the front doorbell and Jane added "I think that's her right now."
